We cut high spots, spread suitable material and shape agreed low areas on already-cleared Athens ground. Planned elevations, drainage, fill and compaction determine the work. Vegetation removal is a separate scope, and rough grading does not certify an engineered building pad.
An agreed ground shape or development layout after the required clearing work.
Cut high spots and spread soil across already-cleared ground.
Fill agreed low spots and shape access or drainage routes.
Specify fill, compaction and finish requirements.
Our Grading Process and Equipment
Our process starts with the planned elevations and where water needs to drain. We match a dozer, compact track loader with grading attachment or motor grader to the access and finish. We cut high spots, spread suitable material and compact specified fill, with deeper excavation handled separately when required.
Piedmont Slopes, Soil Support and Drainage
Athens has upland woodland, moist slopes and creek-bottom habitats, so the ground must be assessed on the parcel. We check soil support, exposed subsoil, runoff routes and retained roots before moving material. Wet ground can rut or compact, while bare slopes need an erosion-control plan. Streams, wetlands and flood zones require separate review.
Land Clearing Questions, Clear Answers.
Do I need approval for land clearing in Athens?+
The parcel and scope determine the requirements. Athens-Clarke County uses tree management plans for applicable development and land-disturbance work. Routine mowing, tree removal, clearing and grading are different activities. We check the actual jurisdiction and required approvals before cutting trees or disturbing soil. Nearby counties and cities have their own processes.
Can you work near Athens creeks and wet ground?+
We assess access, soil support, drainage and the proposed footprint first. Creek bottoms and saturated ground may need a different approach or schedule. Applicable stream buffers, wetland rules and floodplain requirements are checked before disturbance.
Does grading make the property ready to build?+
Rough grading establishes an agreed shape; it does not certify a foundation pad. The building project may need engineered elevations, suitable fill, compaction testing, drainage approval and inspections. Agree on the handoff requirements with the next contractor.
